Using the Developer Console to exit SharePoint Classic Mode

For some reason on one of my tenants, the “Return to Modern” link simply doesn’t render any more and it hasn’t for months. I don’t go back to Classic Mode very often but it’s a necessity to remove an SPFx package still. Once I remove my package, I get stuck in Classic Mode. I’m not sure the cause but Tom Resing was nice enough to provide me with a hack to edit Classic Mode.

Open your developer console and simply past and execute the following:

javascript:document.cookie = "splnu = 1; path=/"

Refresh the page and you’ll be back in modern. I kept having to look this up in an old conversation in Teams so I decided to write a quick post. Sometimes, I blog simply so I can remember how to do something later.
